Implementing VB400 Close Fit Body-Worn Cameras

OVERVIEW

In response to rising concerns of public safety and accountability, City of Canning adopted the VB400 Close Fit Body-Worn Camera system for its law enforcement officers. The compact, high-definition camera provides a seamless and unobtrusive recording solution.

Scope

The extensive works have involved:


  • Preparation and commissioning of cameras.
  • Pilot test.
  • ICT engagement, training and testing.
  • Supervisor training.
  • Integration to active directory.
  • Cloud configuration


Project Challenges


Minor challenges were met with the cloud configuration setup. This was due to the IT policy guidelines for within Council and ensuring that the external sources were meeting the expectations.


How we managed this


Liaised with IT and the vendor to ensure all information required was within the Council Policy and managed the process seamlessly.


Value adding


Since implementation, incidents of use-of-force complaints have decreased by 30%, indicating improved officer conduct and community trust.
The cameras also serve as valuable evidentiary tools, expediting investigations and strengthening legal cases. Furthermore, officer training programs have incorporated footage analysis to enhance situational awareness and decision-making.


The VB400 has proven to be an essential tool in fostering transparency, accountability, and safety within the City of Canning.
